Choosing a Health Plan at Registration

Fall 2012 registration closed September 17, 2012. Spring 2013 registration closed February 4, 2013.

Students* must choose a health plan option at registration. The Office of Student Health Benefits then verifies this information.

Students* must select one of the three health plan options below when registering:

  1. I acknowledge that I will be enrolled in the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan. (Only students who meet eligibility requirements will be enrolled.
  2. I have health plan coverage through one of the following:*
    • Blue Cross and Blue Shield
    • Dean Health Plan
    • HealthPartners
    • Medica
    • MN Care or Medical Assistance(MA)
    • Preferred One
    • UCare
    • United Healthcare
    • WPS
    • Indian Health Services
    • Graduate Assistant Health Plan (GAHP)
  3. I have health plan coverage through a company other than those listed above.

Note: *International Students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan and are only eligible to waive out of it if enrolled in either the University-sponsored Graduate Assistant Health Plan or a United States-based employer-sponsored group health plan.

OR I have previously submitted and been approved for a 2 year waiver from the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan.

OR I am registered for fewer than 6 eligible credits this term (3 credits in the summer).

OR I am a non-degree seeking, distance learning, EMBA, or PTMBA student.

If students have active health plan coverage, they are eligible to waive from the Student Health Benefit Plan for two years. If the student’s health plan coverage is not verifiable (electronically or otherwise), the student will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan (if he or she meets the eligibility criteria) and the Student Account will be charged the full, nonrefundable semester coverage fee.

Note: Providing deceptive information on the health plan registration screen is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct and could result in student judicial action in addition to enrollment in or denial of enrollment in the Student Health Benefit Plan.

*Students currently enrolled on the Student Health Benefit Plan who wish to remain on the plan will select option 1 during registration.
